Better With Books: Week 3 – Which Book got 5 Stars?!
I swear, this isn’t going to turn into a book blog! It definitely looks that way right now, granted… Let’s jump straight into it! Three Days Earlier – Lynn Walker I am generally quite a seasonal reader; I love taking advantage of all of the positive aspects of the season and really feeling them through a book. So it was unusual of me to go for a thriller this early in the year. I’m going to be honest: I picked this book specifically so I could fill out a ‘thriller’ block in my book tetris for the year. I’m actually struggling with book tetris a bit more than I thought…

Better With Books: Week 2
A Three Star Week I don’t know if its just because I have a certain mood each week, but this is another week where every book is rated the same! I finished fewer books this week, mostly because I’ve felt so ill that I haven’t wanted to read books in bed and just want to go straight to sleep. The way I tend to ‘structure’ my reading is to have one physical book a week that I read on the couch, one digital book a week that I read in bed, and then I try to do an audiobook a week while doing other thing but I struggle with those…

Better With Books: Week 1
Look at me, posting two weeks in a row! One way I thought it would be easy to make use of this blog (after I talked last week about how I need to use it or lose it!) would be to talk about the main ways I am spending my time and for me, if I’m not working I am generally reading! My Goodreads goal for 2026 is to read 100 books, which should be achievable because I surpassed my target of 85 books in 2025 and actually reached 100 by accident. With that in mind, I should have plenty to talk about every week, as I summarise the books…

Stepping in to 2026
All of a sudden, 2026 is here. A whole new year, a chance to leave the last one behind, ‘new year, new me’ and all of the other nonsense people say when December 31st turns into January 1st. I’m not necessarily one for New Years Resolutions, but I do like challenges and I appreciate an excuse to take stock and reevaluate where needed. One of the things I am really looking at this year is money. I want to spend less and save more. And while it seems simple when you say it like that, it never quite seems to go that way! Use It or Lose It in 2026…

Getting Reacquainted with Life
Look, I’ll admit it – I’m a terrible blogger. I go in all guns blazing and then life happens and I forget about it for the best part of a year. There are mixed reasons for this – so let’s just start at the start! I ended 2024 feeling pretty on top of the world – things were starting to feel like they were balancing out and I was in a good place in most aspects of my life. Then a series of things went wrong. I lost one of my freelance roles in the first week of January, had to take my dog to the vet multiple times in…

Scotland’s Planner Meet – Travels Across Scotland
The last thing I said on here was that I had no further travel plans, but lo and behold, I didn’t think about the fact I was going to Scotland’s Planner Meet just two days after posting! Obviously it was still travel within Scotland, but I think it should still count! Am I going to go? I’m not going to lie; I almost didn’t go. I had been ill for a couple of weeks, and my cough was unbearable. I was worried about flying while being fat, having coughing fits in public, peeing myself (Mums will know!), being someone that other people wouldn’t want to be around and generally just…

Travel to York
It’s been a quiet few weeks on the website, which isn’t the ‘bang’ I hoped to start this with, but there are good reasons! The first that I had to travel to York for my bestie’s birthday party. And secondly, once I got back I was straight into work, a chest infection and general daily life. But that’s not why you’re here! You want to hear about my travels! Living in Orkney, I have to factor in a day either side of any sort of event for travelling. I’m mostly used to having to do that, having grown up here, but I must admit it had been a good 15…

Moments of Maximalism
I love maximalism, so while I wait to find the time to decorate my home, I have sprinkled some moments of maximalism around the house.

Welcome to Make Life Feel Better!
I’m sure I’m not alone in being the kind of person who has started blog after blog over the years. Some of you might remember me as a fashion blogger from a life before I started Make Life Feel Better, others as an activist, some as a planner, and I’ve even poured my heart out in far too many old LiveJournal posts that I’m too scared to look up and find out if they actually exist anymore. Most who are here won’t know me as a blogger at all, but as someone who shares what they’re eating every day on TikTok in videos that begin with the annoyingly repetitive “my…
